How can I tell if my car has been cammed already thinking about doing it but feels nippier than my mates revs nice and freely and has good power from around 2000 - 5800 rpm

Take off the rocker cover and check is the best way.
Probably would be a lumpy idle, easily noticeable.
Your car could be faster due to better service history, or just had an easier life.

Rip the cams out and check for factory markings at the end

idle does seam a little lumpy :/ and what factory markings would i be looking for??

A single letter at the end of the cam, near the thermostat housing. If I remember correctly it will be a J

Markings would be the same if the cams had been reprofiled. Lumpy idle will only show on long duration cams on standard inlet...cams with just a higher lift would be smooth still...I have long duration cams on mine and the idle is silky smooth.

But then if they were reprofiled it would be clear on the lobes. The ends would be a black shade compared to the normal

looks like its been cammed but ill have a proper look if the weather is better 2moz took the rocker cover off and just had a look down the side of the engine

Just a note on repro's - they are not a good idea especially with hydro followers as they have to pump up quicker. If you are going to cam an engine, do it right and buy from new cast.. unless you are on a uber tight budget... but then you will find said followers steadily decreasing in performance and ultimately loosing power when they no longer pump up quick enough to take up the clearance...
...and what Ed said is right about duration and lift. Depending on whether you are looking for torque of higher top end power, you would bias one over the other.

Thanks for all the advice on cams and reporfs
Had the rocker cover off completely today as nice and dry out there and found the lobes to be very shiny on most of the outer side then a darker end bit ??
Does this means they've been reprofiled or could this be wear and tear??
Also the pulley is a nice shiny blue well it is when I cleaned it up abit lol

The nice shiny blue pulley sounds like an alloy vernier which often accompanies a performance cam. The shiny bits on the cam is where the lobes are making frequent contact with the followers; the darker side being where there is not, which should be on the base of the lobe. This will probably be where the oil deposits have collected and darkened the metal, but perfectly normal.
If you have a micrometer you can measure the lobe height and compare it... but by the evidence of the alloy pulley alone, it sounds like you have yourself a cammed engine already... game on =)

Measure the base circle of the cam - i.e. the smallest diameter then measure the largest diameter. Take one from the other and that gives you the valve lift - in it's simplest calculation. Then you need to measure a known standard cam to see if there is a difference.

With mine i had to get piper followers as mine had seized after 60k miles lol
