HI does anybody know what the thing with the black cap on is for. And there is a blanking plate behind it. What used to to be for?

Black plate is the EGR valve blocked off and the dome capped item is for the VVT/secondary air pump setup what it does exactly i'm not 100% sure.

that is right,that dome capped item,got attached to the air hose you see in the pic,what it do,is when you start the car in the morning,the ECU makes the air pump on to pump fresh air,so that all the carbon left in the throttle body is gone when the engine runs,and also do it while you are stuck in traffic,so you have a better fuel burn,which means better for fuel MPG.

Well that ain't certainly working for me cause I'm not seeing an inch over 30mpg no matter where I go lmao. Doesn't help I've got a Typhoon induction kit.

then make sure yours is working..LOL :),if it's not working you will have the EML on,but the induction kit is not helping with this case,as the bump takes the fresh air from the filter box,so it be clean,so since you have an induction kit,i think yours is not working probably.
