Hi Folks,
Having problems with a 2.0 diesel 206 (2003) model. having intermittent problems starting, has the problem id say about 1 out of every 10 times you try to start the car, however once it has started you can generally stop and start the engine loads of times without issue in sucession.

Mechanic didnt find any faults on the code reader however wasn't able to replicate the problem. He did say thought that he thought there might be a crack in the crank sensor, having had a clutch replacement last year, that it might have been damaged at that time. Tool the airbox off and battery tray to get a look.

Is this the correct sensor to check? if so I can see nothing wrong with it - i think they mechanic was looking for something simple to do for the sake of doing something on such a difficult fault to troubleshoot.
The car is also not posting any crank sensor errors or any other error codes.

Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

I had a Gti in, no codes at all but failed to start completely. The crank sensor was damaged causing the lack of starting but it still managed to . through out a rev counter output.

Cause was damage by a slight bit of metal in the bellhousing of the box
