Could be your lamdba sensor on its way out. Its really easy to change yourself!
Has it had a service resently? Change of oil wouldnt go a miss and cleaning your idle control unit will also benefit - (there is a guide on this written up by tom I believe)

Before doing anything check the following:-

I assume that you do not have an engine management light lit on the dash, if you do get the codes read.

Is your car getting up to temperature? If the thermostat is failed a cool running engine will use more fuel.

Put a rag over the end of your exhaust with the car running and get a mate to look under the bonnet and under the car to see if you have an exhaust leak in front of any of the lambda sensors. If you do fix the exhaust leak first. An exhaust leak in front of any lambda sensor will upset the engine management system and cause over fuelling.

It could be a leaking injector. Remove each spark plug and see if you have one that is more sooty than the rest - that will point to a problem with that cylinder and possibly that injector. Though it could be the coil pack (usually felt as a misfire), spark plug, valves or rings in that cylinder.

Have you had any recent engine work done to the car or a service? it could be related to that work.

It might also be worth cleaning the map sensor.

Finally excess fuel will kill your cat so get it fixed quickly.

get a reader on it with live engine data (even cheapish ones off ebay do this) and check the long term and short term fuel trim, see if its the ecu compensating (this is sign of a duff pre-cat lambda or leak between cylinder head and cat) it will also show you the lambda sensor voltages,if bank 1 is constantly low (0.1-0.2v) or very high (0.8-0.9v) then its definately excess/insufficent fuel being burned and not a leak from injectors

depends what kind of driving you do but i wish i was seeing 30+ mpg lol. im lucky to scrape 28 but most my driving is heavy traffic on short trips to work

Fix the hole in the exhaust first, clear the fault codes and see how it goes.
If you still have high consumption then re-read the codes and do live data.

Your just wasting your time until the exhaust is fixed.

How can you expect the car to run correctly with a faulty exhaust Rolling Eyes

Checked plugs all lock sutted the same so does that mean cylinders are fine ? But what about coil pack does. That say same for that some times the car has a little stutter when ticking over I going to clean throttle bodie and check calliper s but any feed back on the talk above would be nice thanks

The sooted plugs may be from previous problems. I would swap them for new plugs as sooted plugs may affect performance and fault codes and see if the soot or problems return or improve.

After changing the plugs and before going for a drive get all the old codes cleared. Go for a drive of mixed motoring and at least 10 miles and see if any new codes are stored. If possible get live data reading.

A check for sticking brakes is easy, jack the car up and spin the road wheel by hand. Though note that it sometimes takes a few brake applications and some heat before a pad sticks so on your test drive do some hard braking in the first few miles and then avoid all hard braking until you get back. Once back put your hand on each road wheel and if any are excessively hot that points to a sticking calliper on that wheel. Note that your front wheels may be warm (any braking produces lots of heat) but not too hot to keep your hand on and your rear wheels should be almost cold.
