Hi. Have just done head gasket on 2000 206 1.4 , inc water pump, thermostat, and new expansion tank cap. Car is automatic and has Air Con. Have bled coolant system,(several times !) as described in forums etc. Fan cuts in fine when car is static, thermostat works OK, but when driving along the temperature goes up to 100deg mark, and back down to 90, and wavers between the two, dropping down to mid 80's when slowing down. Thought it was trapped air, but having doubts. Temp sensor maybe? Any 206 techies out there with any ideas?

I could be a sluggish thermostat. Unusual but does happen.

Thankyou for your replies chaps.... Some time has passed since. Put the old thermostat in and everything seemed to be fine for a couple of days, although running 70 to 80 deg. Then after a 7 mile run at speed to work it overheated... steam coming out of the exp tank top. Left to cool and topped it up and drove home , still getting hot but no steam. Decided to let mechanic friend look at it. Thanks Tony! Drove it at speed and slow with no problem at all. Now running fine ..fingers crossed. Diagnosis is.. an airlock which somehow got released during the hot runs home. Summary... Very diificult to bleed positively...how did they do it in the factory?? How do Peugeot dealers do it ?? ! Years ago had an Escort I replaced a radiator on, similar symptoms but cured after a single spell of a high temperature run under load, temp needle went up v high then dropped, and was OK after that.
......Whod have a car??
