I have a knocking noise which appears to be coming from the nearside rear.
It sounds like metal knocking together and only happens when I go around a right hand bend on a bumpy road.
I’ve checked the rear exhaust and spare wheel and it’s not coming from there.
I recently replaced my rear axle earlier this year with a reconditioned one.
Any Ideas anyone?

I also replaced my rear axle with a recon last year, I've got almost the same issue but mines only over bumps not turning. It's my exhaust hangers that are too short. You can't replicate the noise as there isn't enough force by hand but is when driving. Worth a shot

The noise has only just started last week after I had a MOT done!

I would take it back to where you had the MOT done and get them to rectify

I have taken my car back to Halfords Auto Centre who carried out the MOT but as I guessed
They have denied all responsibility.
They have told me that they think the internal Torque tube may have snapped!
Is this possible?
Would the suspension arm not have dropped on one side?
There is no play in the NSR wheel at all!
And it’s strange that it only rattles (very loudly metal against metal) when going over a bumpy surface and turning right!

Not sure what an mot would do to cause this?!?
I suggest you take the car to a proper garage to have it diagnosed properly. You need a mechanic to take it for a drive and get it on a ramp.

To be honest if you take any car to Halfords you should expect problems.

They had it on a ramp and took it for a drive when I took it back, there is nothing showing externally that might be causing it as I have looked myself.

Yea but as above Halfords!
Might as well take it to Kwik Fit!!
Go to a proper garage with real experienced mechanics.

Got the same issue too. At first I was thought the boot wasn't shut properly, or accusing the fiancée she has left something in the boot.
However new to working on 206's so I was only looking for springs to see if they had snapped to learn it doesn't have any as its a torsen setup lol.

Not got as far as to lifting the car yet to have a full look under it yet. May do over the next few days. I was hoping for a quick diagnosis like a damaged spring.

UPDATE
I put my car on axle stands last night as the rattling was getting worse on my way home from work.
I took off both wheels and found the the BOLT that holds the Torsion Bar in place on the nearside was almost OUT!!!!
I put some Loctite on it and bolted it back up and now the problem has been fixed, I'm no mechanic but why could'not the x3 halfords mechanics who were trying to diagnose the problem see that????

Because Halfords and Kwik Fit no nothing about cars from my experience!
Kwik fit once told me a rumbling noise I had when I bought and fitted some nimrods was my discs were worn down so the alloy wheel bolt was going through to far and rubbing on the disc!?!? I took the wheel of and clearly saw it was a badly worn tyre.
