Hi folks,
My wife drives a 206 2.0 hdi se on a 54 plate. The motor has been fine up until today. When you indicate right it will indicate for a few seconds then go off. When the indicator goes off the headlights come on in their place. I have read that there has been bother with metal filings and dirt on the stalks and this can be cleaned. I found a guide on how to clean them so I thought I would give it a go. When I took the cowl off from around the column I could see the stalks were set inside a plastic case which looks as though it is clamped onto the column. Its a differant set up to the photos in the guide on the net. Does the wheel have to come off to remove the stalks or can the casing be taken off. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have a faulty comms unit. Try a BSI Reboot from the beginners guide on here. Failing that a new comms can be purchased for about £100 from ECP.

Thanks for the reply. I have printed the bsi reboot procedure and will give that a go. Failing that if I need to remove the unit with the stalks do I have to remove the steering wheel to get it off. If I need to remove the steering wheel are there any guides for this. Will the part number on the comms unit be the same as the ecp part number.
One thing I forgot to mention is that if you just push and hold the indicator stalk it works fine its only when it makes its final position. And strangely the indicator works fine when the sidelights and headlights are switched on. The problem only occurs when lights are switched off. Even tried with auto lighting on and off with same result.

Yes the steering wheel needs to come off.
It's fairly straight forward. Your issues sound similar to most comms unit failures.
To change the comm
Make sure wheels ate straight
BSI shutdown
Remove airbag with a screwdriver to push the clip at the back of the steering wheel
Remove the wires connected to the airbag
Use a T50 or T55 to loosen the steering wheel bolt.
Now loosen steering wheel once loose take the bolt off and the wheel.
Loosen the comms retaining bracket unclip all connections
Remove the comms
Fitting is all in reverse
BSI wake up procedure.
I think that is everything.
Obviously be careful to allow enough time for the power to be off before messing with the airbag. Take it floy and you will be fine. Once you start all the clips and plugs etc are fairly obvious.

Thanks for the breakdown bud. Haven't done this before so that will help me out. Will the part number be on the comms and do ECP use the same number ?

No they don't. Put your reg in and then match the functions to your current functions.

well you might have a relay that needs to be replaced in the BSI unit,that can be replaced and it will work out great.

Thanks for the info on the relay in the bsi. Can I access this myself and check them out. If so where abouts is it located.
