my gear box started to whine and chatter slightly a few hundred miles ago . altho it dosent feel clonky or stiff to change gear no clutch slip or vibrations just a high pitche whine and on the down chane a chatter .
now iv herd somewhere youre suposed to change gear oil 80-90 thou is this true or not and if so what oil is it .
if it knackered what should i be paying for a deacent one .
If the whine dissapears when you press the clutch then that could be an indication of input shaft bearings going.
I doubt it would be fixed by a gearbox oil change but could try. I changed my gearbox oil on 100,000km's (60-ish k miles) just out of precaution and the gearbox smoother to shift around. Though best to just bring it to a proper mechanic to diagnose, afterall if you're going to have to do gearbox work, you'll likely have to replace the oil anyways.

The noise does not disappear when the crutch is pressed . The pitch and the volume of the noise increases with the rev .
