Well my little 206 got a new cambelt and water pump today. When the mechanic brought her back he said the brake pads need sorting ASAP because they were grinding. I said I'd look into it and off he went. Well!! I got in my car to put it in the garage and bloody hell! What a noise when I put my foot on the brake? Sounds like the pads are non existant and I'm grinding metal on metal....probably scoring the discs. So...it's down to the car spares tomorrow and fitting new brake pads if the discs are not damaged. I won't be driving my car til the brakes are done.....got a mate driving me to get them and help to fit them too. Me and cars seem to be a bad mix.....I've not had a problem free one yet.

Its only brake pads......
I dont classify that as a problem, just a consumable part. I would recommend you do disks it they have been metal to metal

my brakes were grinding 1st thing this mornin both new pads and discs back in may, but after leaving the estate and brakes had warmed up everythin was fine, same when i got in car leaving work this afternoon, could be a combination of rust and salt build up from the roads this time of year ?

If your worried jack it up and put it on axle stands, remove the wheels and have a look, if it's grinding all the time you most likely have no pads left or a seized caliper piston or seized sliders. A very easy job to replace the brakes just make sure you clean everything and lubricate the sliders. My seals split on my calipers and it was easier and cheaper just to replace the calipers.

Thanks guys. Brake pads have been replaced. No damage to the discs but the pads were very much on there last couple of mm's of wear. Just need to sort the boot lock and the reversing lights and I have a FULLY working car again. Lol!
