Could be the immobiliser, could be the inertia switch needs resetting (if ones fitted) or something completely different.
What were the circumstances leading up to not starting? Have you done anything to the car before it stopped starting?
A bit more information about your car ie engine, fuel, age etc might be more use for getting answers

If it was the immobiliser, would the wireless key still unlock the car??
and the car is pretty messed up... sometimes it would idle at 3000 revs and while driving the revs would stay that high if the clutch was down or if all the pedals are released, meaning it would accelerate itself. sometimes while driving it would cut out and start again when i turned the key.... however sometimes when it cuts out it wouldn't start unless i dissconnected the battery and connected it again. until one day it cut out and just wont start... it ticked over but made no attempt to fire.
we call the RAC out who said it was the fuel pump. i did some research and found out my fuel pump isn't coded, so i've got a replacement from a scrappy, as i can't afford a brand new one just yet.
We fitted it but the car still wont start.
and sorry I've got a 1999 petrol Peugeot 206 glx 1.4 8v >100k miles
let me knwo if you need any more info

p**s in the wind mate.
Did you ever check the fuel pressure before you condemed the pump?
Are you getting a crank signal? Is the ecu unlocking? Can you talk to the ECU's? Is the BSi full of water? P codes?
We need key info mate!
