Hi there..
Ok, I just want to pass some info onto you...
I have a 2000 X reg 1.9 LD....
For a while, there has been a shortage of power.... My wife said it was the glowplugs... Bless.. She doesnt understand diesels...
Anyway.... We were coming back from the shops, and the power dropped to that of a lame donkey... I got the car home, parked it, then shut it off..
So, for shits and giggles, I tried to restart it... Yes, the car was upto tempreture, so it shouldnt be a glowplug issue... (Thanks honey...)
But it refused to start... Chugga, Chugga, Chugga.. Accompanied with a clicking that I havent heard before......
So, this is my diagnosis... And, if it's wrong, please do let me know...
I think that the fuel shut off solanoid is not opening, preventing fuel getting into the system and burned....
I have removed the air filter completly.. as in the whole airbox... and it still doesnt start ...
So, am I right???
Many thanks in advance
Simon

Wonder if you have a blocked fuel filter.

Its a relatively new filter.. 3 months... But I checked it by blowing into it, and the diesel in the filter fizzed... So, I ruled that out.... But thanks for getting back to me...

it does sound like a fuel problem to me. sounds like a blockage of somekind. is there a way to test the shut off valve?

Does this car have an anti-run on valve. Basically just like a throttle valve on a petrol. However, on the diesel they are either fully open of fully closed. they close when you switch off to give instant shut down rather than any run on or that judder to a stop that some diesels have. Perhaps this is sticking and isn't opening properly.

This is a 1.9 non turbo diesel..
The fuel shut off solenoid on the fuel pump, I checked that, it does open and close, so that's not the problem. I think it's either the low pressure pump in the tank, or the high pressure pump in the engine bay... now, since the high pressure ones are a fortune, even second hand ones... so I am going to try to find a low pressure one in a breakers to see if it's that....

When I have the tank off, I will check the fuel lines... you might be right commandosqueak, but I will try everything I can....
