Well in this case this problem can be caused by 3 reasons :

1-Faulty Speedo (oil temp gauge),and it can be tested using a PP2000,to make sure it's in full working order or not.

2-Bad wiring for the Oil level sensor, which do jobs here,as an oil leveler, and oil temp. sensor.

3-A Faulty Oil sensor.

so you need to test and see which is the cause.

The oil level sensor seems to be working ok, it registers the oil level fine on start up, what is a pp2000?, can a new sensor be bought from any motor factors?

PP2000 is the diagnostic software ... would allow you to test the gauge and sender works.

You may find one at a motor factors, but probably a dealer is the best bet or internet ...

Think it simply screws into sump. If you jack up the car so oil is tilted away from sender you shouldn't lose any oil.

Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.

Send me your VIN,and I can check the exact location of the sensor, other wise can't tell if it a DIY job or a mechanic.

Check this link, you might find a close Mechanic from this great forum, who can do it for you.

also, check this PP2000 Map to see if any member is close to you ,who can help you to know what is really faulty.
