As title, my cigarette lighter doesnt work. The light around it works, but it doesnt work (as in charge a phone or power satnavs etc)

I found a red wire that comes from down and under towards the ashtray/lighter are, and its not connected to anything. Where does this red wire go?

Or is this red wire remnants of a previous stereo install perhaps? It's just a lone, thick red wire that reaches up about 10 inches.

Maybe it's the lighter fuse? Which fuse is it? I took the fuse cover off from under the steering wheel area but there's no diagram. Checked the manual and it says the number of the fuse but there is no number sheet or diagram in the car that shows which fuse is whoch number.

Cheers

the red wire is likely to be the live of the cig lighter, just needs reconnecting but disconnect the bat first

It is a 20amp fuse which also lights up the passanger glove box light.
So just check all 20amp fuses.

there should be 3 wires on the cig lighter, one for light, one for earth and one for power.

And remember that the wire may have been removed deliberately. It wouldn't be the first time someone reconnected a wire to then keep blowing fuses so have a few spare ones ready and also be prepared to remove the wire quickly if you get electrical burning. Test everything before putting it all back together.

What do I connect it to though? What should it be connected to? I am thinking it's a non standard wire, wired in on the cheap to power a head unit (to save losing memory when disconnected. as the Kenwood head unit that came with the car stayed on after ignition off) in which case the wire should not be there

Get a knowledgeable mate to look at it and remember that fried electrics on modern cars are VERY expensive to fix. Also a lot of knowledgeable mechanics are lost the moment electrikery and electronics are involved.
