I am trying to diagnose/repair a friend's 206 (X reg 1.6 petrol Roland Gaross). The MFD is 'blank'.

From searching forums I was expecting it to be a solder joint on the connector for the backlights.

When removed from the dash I found the connector was fine and all 4 bulbs illuminate, it is just that there is no information at all on the display. I have searched the web in vain and not found any help. The harness connector at the MFD looks fine, I assume it has lost communication from the radio somehow, any ideas?

Another issue is that my friend doesn't have the radio code so I'm not happy to disconnect the battery, I assume this requires a Peugeot dealer to reset and have proof of ownership?

The MFD is the multiline showing radio station, date, temp... It should be preplexed. I don't find the fuse listing completely explicit; fuse 18 would seem to be the one and includes the radio which itself is working and the buttons are illuminated as is the instrument cluster so must be okay. Clock or display is also mentioned for fuses 8 and 22 but other things on these are working. This discounts a thought that perhaps the backlight feed is separate to the main supply for the MFD.

I have also inspected the PCB carefully and there are no dry joints I can see. The flexi ribbon to the display from the PCB looks undamaged. Pressing on the display has no effect. The backlight bulbs are illuminated.

Seems to have eliminated all the usual suspects I can find on here and the web but the display is blank.

Before I give up and declare the MFD dead does anyone have any other ideas?

Yes get a multimeter on the loom to see if current is reaching the mfd. Smile

Your time typing-up all this, is worth more than a replacement costs in eBay.
