Bought a 206 1.6 HDI 110 few days ago, ran fine on test drive bar a squeak from engine on startup and shutdown.

Took it to a garage to get Terracleaned and tracking done, picked it up with a list of faults...

Squeak noise is the flywheel on it's way out
Couldn't pump the tyres up as stupid security cap on the valves
Locking key is too worn to remove the locking nuts
Offside rear tyre perished
Nearside front CV gaiter loose (and now car sounds like a 747 at 60+...CV joint or wheel bearing
Front discs corroded

So I ordered about £550 worth of flywheel, clutch and brakes last night. Decided today to remove the centre console and replace a bulb as the fan controls don't light up at night, and to fit my own head unit. The clock was disconnected, reconnected it and got the ANTI POLLUTION FAULT - DIESEL FILTER BLOCKED message.

So that's another £400 minimum to remove the DPF

Fluid leaking from behind near nearside wheel, dripping from the suspension knuckle, tastes like anti freeze?

All 4 wheels are from the same side of a car, so 2 are pointing in a different direction

Tempted to just sell at a potential loss and find something else. FML

Does a squeak warrant changing the flywheel?

It's more than that now i've driven the car a few days, there's a graunching sensation from the tansmission below 1k, doesn't feel very good at all.

You'll not find much positive feedback on the 1.6 HDi here, especially from me Laughing

If you bought the car from a garage I'd get familiar with the Sale of Goods Act, go back and request they fix it, or even better take it back. Whoever sold you the car was clearly at it and disconnected the clock display so you wouldn't know about the blocked DPF.

If you bought it privately I'd get busy using the search function on here and be prepared to have an empty wallet.

Nah it's not my old one. You might be able to clear the DPF though, have a read on the forum for some advice. If there are any Peugeot dealers your way (not Arnold Shark franchises) it might be an idea to ask for prices on fault clearing and resetting the pressure sensors on the filter.

The rest of the stuff shouldn't be tol dear to fix tbh. I'm pretty sure Snap-On sell a special socket which bites into wheel bolts if you don't wanna pay a garage time to remove them. Failing that, find a suitably sized socket and smash that on over the top of the lockers. That's worked for me everytime.

I'm planning on phoning my local Pug dealer on Monday to order a replacement nut, i'll ask about the DPF. They're not Arnold Shark, although this car drives like one of theirs.

Laughing might find it was originally a Sharkies car.

If you can, I'd maybe pop down and see them. They might be able to get a tech to have a nosey if it's not too busy.

So the Pug is averaging 50mpg and is fun to drive, so i've decided to keep it.

During the terraclean treatment, the engine revs kept rising and needed to be turned down, mechanic said thats all the crap blowing out and the engine breathing easier Smile

Garage also said they can remove the DPF and remap the car, and will weld the empty DPF shut and MOT it no problem as the DPF housing is still there.

Fitted a Connect2 adapter for my Alpine 305 head unit, can now use the steering contols

Ordered LOADS of bits. So far

Valeo clutch
Valeo DMF
Peugeot turbo oil feed pipe & banjo bolts
Beru glow plugs
Peugeot air filter
Cabin filter
Differential pressure sensor
Bulbs for the clock display dash thing
Pagid discs & pads all round
206 GTI rear lights (to replace the aftermarket Lexus type fitted)
Phillips Xtreme Vision H7 bulbs x4
Change gearbox oil
Change brake fluid
Peugeot OEM aerial (replace aftermarket stubby type)
Peugeot replacement locking wheel nut key (£60 and 10 day waiting list, need this ASAP to start work)
CV gaiter (although the CV joint sounds knackered so will get this noise diagnosed and sorted, a whining noise that gets higher with speed, coming from wheel with perished gaiter)

That's it for now, not expecting much change from £600 to fit all that, including the remap

After that i'll be replacing all 4 tyres (budget crap fitted) and looking at replacing the shocks, feel every bump at the moment, though the gash tyres aren't helping)

Your commited now so best stick with it. Similar circumstance to mine is this, I bought mine just under a year ago and DMF squeaked but I thought sod it. After a week or so it developed a fault where it wouldnt start and I had to pump the bulb to get the fuel through and then it`d fire up. Long story short it was the smallest of pin holes in the fuel line at the side of the cambelt side. Family member works for peugeot main agent so took it in for a cambelt change and got a phone call saying it needed a high pressure pump. Got that sorted as well as cambelt and service then the anti pollution light came on which the mechanic who did the other jobs as a foreigner regen`d it and that sorted that out. Had 2 front springs replaced, droplinks and other stuff that is obviously down to the usual wear and tear. I`m in it now for to much money and its now a cracking little motor. To be fair the previous lady owner spent an absolute fortune on it whilst she owned it for over 8 years and i mean a fortune. Biggest annoying thing is that she lived up on the coast of scotland and its suffered real bad salt damage, even to the point where the paint under the arches just flakes off and there's what i can only describe as rust spots but underneath the paint and its not broke through. Had them at the main agents to take photos of these and try and cliam on the perforation warranty but whoever has decided its not covered, shocker is I was told its gonna cost (if i was lucky enough to get the work done) over 4k. Having said that a set of arch extentions has hidden the flaky paint and i detail cars to its an absolute mint ball to look at. I`d most defo have stayed away from that model if I knew then what i know now but hey ho. Seen a spicy 206 2.0 hdi for sale and tempted to get it and let wife have this one lol

Aye am planning to keep this one until it falls apart after all this spending! I am based in Scotland too, but the car has spent most of it's life near Newcastle and thankfully it's rust free underneath, that was one of the deciding factors in keeping it.

Sometimes I think I must be mad spending all this money on a 2 grand car but hey it's not an investment, and it will be a cracking wee motor and i'll know the history which is a godsend nowadays when buying used.

I had my DPF removed for £450 and that's including the software. It now does around 65mpg constantly.

I am getting squeaks and rattles but that a given as its now an 8 year old car.

I bought my Hdi GTI even though I received very bad feedback from everyone on here and hey presto my DPF message had been hidden, but aside from that, it's been okay.

Well maybe apart from a PITA aircon pipe, but I caused that, it wasn't down to the car.

Let me know how long it takes to do the clutch and flywheel?

Mine is coming up for 100k now, i've done 31k in 15months and the cambelt & water pump are being done on the 15th Feb.

May sell it along with my MR2 in the summer to fund an EVO Smile

Can't remember what the bok time is, but it took my mate 2 full nights to change his flywheel. You have to remove the full cooling system for the DPF to get access.

I'd just wait until your getting your flywheel changed and get them to change the aircon pipe while they have access.
