evening all help needed........went to top coolant up today. and to my dismay header tank was empty. panic! ok anyway oil level was correct and perfect. very very very very faint sign of water no colour change or anything! could this be the water pump then? anyone got ideas? is a 51 plate gti. any help is much appreciated, is this an easy job to do whatever the problem is?

Well you need to look for leaks if there is a leak on the side of timing belt,then the water pump is faulty and need to be replaced,also check for leak underneath the radiator as it's also a common problem to have leak there.

the thing is theirs no leak under my car when i check? will only occur when its runnning? im really confused as to where the water is going or can go?

Take it to a local garage fill the cooling system up, get them to pressure test the system. Then watch the guage for pressure dropping, and see where the coolant is leaking from.
