Hello,
I have an H reg peugeot 206 estate and I am looking to set up a dash cam.
The camera will sit on the dashboard or on my rear view mirror and requires a power supply. Most of the cameras come with a power supply that connects to the cigarette lighter socket, so I would have to run the cable under the console and then around the edge of the windscreen if I wanted a camera mounted on rear view mirror.
Is there any way to run in a power supply from the engine? If so, how to?
I've had a google about it and a search on these forums but couldn't find any info. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

1) im sure you dont have a H reg 206 lol
2) problem with having it attached to the battery is that it will be a constant power supply, unless you fitted a switch somehow.

I have a camera fitted to my interior view mirror. I have run the wire through the interior light panel, along the headlining , down the N/S A pillar and under the dash in the cable trunking that is there and finally to the centre console. It originally had a cigarette light plug attached, but that was taken off and the wires soldered to the wires that feed the cigarette lighter.
Took a couple of minutes to route the wires, and about the same to solder as I had already fitted a second auxiliary socket to the centre console.
When I take the camera out, I just tuck the wire up behind the passenger sun visor.
If you have the power connected to a constant 12v, the camera will stay active all the time. If you connect it to a switched 12v, it will come on with the ignition.

This is what it looks like when it's in place. I built a bracket to attach it to the mirror so I only need to lift the mirror from the screen. Much better than having the suction cup on the windscreen.

It's not hard to find a fused supply in the car, my Blackvue is plugged into the 12V plug in my boot - have a VW Jetta though.
