MOT fail, what parts do i need?

Hey guys/girls,

Just had an MOt and my car has failed on 2 things
Just wondered if someone can clarify what i need to fix it and if i can do it myself

It failed on
"Nearside Track rod end ball joint has excessive play"
&
"Nearside front lower suspension arm has excessive play in a ball joint"

are these both the saem ball joint and roughly how much is it to get fixed? or is it something i can do myself?

need's track rod end and wishbone on the passenger side , but make sure to get tracking done after its all been fitted Wink

If you've got the tools there pretty simple. new track rod end about a £10er from a motor factor, and a new bottom arm, prices vary depending upon how much you value a quality part.

if there on the same side shouldn't take you more than an hour and a half tops. But you will need to get the tracking checked afterwords.

Got quotes for £110-130 to fit the track rod end and lower suspension arm

Get a Garage Itemised qoute, then work out from there.

I had a 'front track rod end excessive play' and a 'rear trailing arm excessive play' fitted after a MOT failure at 100,000 miles.

Get a "quote" not an "estimate." there is a very important difference. An estimate is exactly that - a knowledgeable guess at the cost. A quote is a firm price with cost of parts and labour properly checked and challengeable in a court of law. Lots of garages will "estimate" cheap to get the work then the parts turn out more expensive and the job will be "more difficult than expected." When that happens with an estimate there isn't anything you can do about it.

Can you explain that to Ecosse in Scotland? They don't know the difference!
