it may sound a daft question, but as i wouldnt be doing the work, just want to know. If im replacing the engine (as titled above) (RFN 136bhp model) with identical engine, what else needs to go with it or what would need to be done re:
ecu
immobiliser
comms2000 unit etc

If you're swapping it for an identical engine, should be a straight swap I would have thought. All sensors and connections would be the same.
Might need to reset the learning parameters for the ECU, but that is a simple job with PP.

why not consider going for the modified engine out of the 180. Wouldnt be too much work to get an additional 40bhp?

Parameter reset is simple enough without PP, i thought maybe the immobiliser/ecu/key/comms may need to be dabbled with or re-programmed or something. due to it being a different phsyical engine

As for the 180 engine i was considering that but im just wondering about the same thing, also would need to do gearbox with that aswell as they are a different ratio aint they?

ok,well i doubt it going to be that soon. panic set in last night when she wouldnt turn over then ran like a bag of spanners and had no power but this morning was as normal. its not even hit 90k yet but due to timing being set up bad before think may be valve damage. getting it checked soon. rather replace before it goes in style.

also thinking new rear axle be due as geometry is way out on rear, front is perfect but get pig-ish torque-steer like behaviour.

Are you really suggesting getting a 180 engine fitted in place of the 138 wouldn't be difficult? What about all the wiring being different and it needing the 180 ECU, FBW throttle etc etc?

didnt think it would be that straight forward, especially because of the VVT system on them and mine is 136 so that aint present. i know you can do the 3L v6 conversion but not after uprating everything else to cope and too freont heavy. or there is the 306gti6 route, any other options that would be straight forward or just straight swap?

You know if would be any hassle with ecu/immobiliser etc edward?

why would it be difficult if you have a donor car with all the parts that would be needed? However it was just a thought, i know for certain that when my engine goes, i would be replacing it with the 180 one.

so from a bit of reading, each of the bsi ecu and engine are coded to match for life, code is unreadable and cannot be altered once set by pegueot......so my only route will be donor car with everything by the looks of it Sad

BSI, ECU and immo chip are all coded together and not able to be swapped around as separated as second hand parts. Nothing on the engine should be coded to only work with the ECU fitted otherwise changing a sensor would mean a trip to the dealer to pair it.
As long as the engine you're taking out is the same as the one going in, there should be no problem as the ECU map will be the same.

sooooooo.......

any engine, then a complete set of bsi ecu and immobiliser? so in others words if i keep all my own system any engine should work with it? just spoke to main stealer (or tried to) and they said NONE of it interchangable but then he didnt exactly seem a master mechanic lol

If the engine is the same mechanically ( eg same engine code ) then it will work fine with your original ECU / BSI & keys.

Its only the electrical bit's that are immobilised, the mechanical engine itself isn't.
