Hi, my 52reg gti has developed a clunking when dipping clutch/changing gear and when accelerating hard and then lifting off again. you can feel it through the pedals and seems to be from drivers side but cannot be sure. I have heard it could be engine or gearbox mounts but am not sure where these are exactly. Could it be these that are causing this? the car also tends to wonder left and right at motorway speeds, have had the tracking checked and seems to be ok.
Any help would be much appreciated
Cheers
Chris

If you can rock the engine back and forth then good chance it the rear mount.

You can always rock the engine even with new mounts. The fact the car wonders around suggests it's the wishbone bushes - assuming there is only one problem.

The knocking is the movement in the wishbone bushes.

Hi Guys, the knocking noise happens when you accelerate and then lift off suddenly, but can also happen on certain rough roads etc, also when changing gear when releasing the clutch a bit suddenly in lower gears. Left engine mount/gearbox mount seems like it has play in it. the lower arms were replaced about 30,000 miles ago, would these need doing again or i guess it could be top suspension mounts?
Cheers
Chris
