Hi all,
Got myself a set of Lexus rear lights. I know they aren't popular on here but I need some advice. The lights themselves work well, but the shiny/chrome casing has flaked off and in general gone all broken and cracked. They aren't pretty, but for the price that I paid I couldn't complain.
- With all of the shiny reflective paint all over the show, will they fail MOT?
- Can I repaint them in the chrome/shiny paint? Where do I get the stuff and how hard is it?
- Does it have to be shiny or could it be, for example, black?
Any help massively appreciated guys.

I can't see them failing your MOT as long as the actual reflective strip itself is in tact.
You could split them and have them chrome dipped but as for painting in chrome I'm not sure.
No it could be black, or any color like (see Addaz old lights on his 8v turbo project, they're blue) I have an old set of black lexus lights that are smoked black too for sale if you would like to save yourself some trouble?

The chrome reflective paint all around the lights is all cracked and flaked off. I'd want them back to what they were in all honesty, but if I can't at least I can get them done black or something. What part is the reflective strip?

The reflective strip is like the ole strips in a bicicyle wheel, on the Lexus lights I believe there located (using the right hand side light) on the part that sits closes to the petrol gap, it's a curved strip.
If your still not sure grab a torch!

This is what they were like when I got them. I just took the casing off and washed them with the hose. Took most of the crap off.

I'm mistaken these are different to my old ones. Your reflector is located in the brake light itself mine was located in the curve behind the indicator.
Not a personal fan of the chrome so I would say definetly spray them black and would fit your car better.
Don't forget to seal them water tight if not they'll mist up when it gets cold!

They wouldn't even look good in the bin.
Buried under a ton of concrete and we might be getting somewhere.
