Hi
Every few months my front exhaust joint (mid section to cat) becomes loose and rattles a low engine revs. (One pipe rattles inside the other)
I think that this may be caused by the flexible joint springs being too tight and putting strain on the joint.

My question is how tight should these springs be ??

Without ramps it's a real hassle getting under the car to keep repairing the joint.

Thanks

There should be an exhaust circular gasket/seal (aluminium) where these pipes meet, maybe yours is missing so the pipes rattles.
Mines are tight but it can spring to allow for movements.....so am not sure if it is a spring tightness issue.

Come to think of it, mine don't have pipe to pipe, it is a butt to butt joint.

Thanks,
I should have been clearer. It is not the flex joint itself that rattles. It is the next joint along.

Ah, right......the small pipe to long pipe, the joint itself.

There is a clamp fitted to that joint outside the pipes itself. It has to be very tight and sealed with exhaust paste to fill the gaps.
The clamps are not very good and it is a weakness point.

Looks like you need to tighten up that joint with new clamps & re paste.

Thanks.
Yes, this is what I have done a few times but it always seems to break and start rattling again.
I cant figure out why it keeps on happening.
Maybe just a 206 thing !

Mines don't rattle.
Think its a procedural issue too. Very loose fit the joint at flexible/spring end first then fit the joint between small pipe & long pipe and secure very tightly.....then secure the flexible/spring end last to finish seems to do the job for me.

Great thanks
I'll try fitting it in that order.
