Hiya Chaps,

Just replaced the cambelt on my GLX, how often should it be done? I'm thinking about setting the maintainance reminder thing for that amount, as I don't need to remember to change the oil, as a good amount of clean stuff goes in the top every week Smile

Topping up oil every week isn't a good sign!

I wasn't going to comment as I didn't want to seem pratronising. However, your either flooding your engine or you have a serious leak somewhere!

Until I get round to replacing the cylinder head gasket, yep lol.

It's blown across an oil gallery on the corner, there's more pressing things wrong with it at the moment, and money's the big one!

ETA: thanks for the replies, I've forgotten how to reset the maintainance reminder on the dash now.

The GTI 180 engine requires special locking tools for timing the engine up, most mechanics / garages should now have the tools / skill to replace the belt on one of these.
