Hi

Got a timing belt to replace on a ET3 engine, is there anything special about the VVT I need to worry about?

OR is it just pin it all up with the tools & proceed like any other normal timing belt?

Cheers in advance

Pin it up and you'll be fine, the VVT pulley does like to spring a bit though

No harm in drill bit tools to pin it and liquid pins as well

Also do the water pump as well if i was you

Speaking of the VVT, can I take the solenoid out & give it a clean?

The car drives flat as a witches tit / bogs down around 1200 rpm but get it above 2k rpm & it flies Laughing

I've got a genuine timing belt & water pump kit to fit on it Cool

I assume ET3 is 16V petrol. Does anyone drive one that low in the rev range. I would expect it to be flat down there.

It isn't an 8V nor diesel.

Its the 1.4 petrol 16 valve with VVT.

There is something wrong with it, I get feeling VVT is gummed up.

Yeh, just wip the solenoid out between the two cams and clean with brake cleaner or a strong spirit

Might be worth getting a engine ecu download if it persists

I was thinking software update for BSI, wouldn't hurt to get ECU download at same time.

I get the feeling it hasn't had any downloads for many years.

Must start my project thread at weekend.

Cheers for the advice, timing belt kit & water pump job is on the list for next week.

Ill have the VVT solenoid out at the weekend for a clean & throw a set of Bosch spark plugs in at same time.

Might also have a look with the laptop & see what software it's currently running at the moment.
