The cap keeps pressure in the system . To be sealed air tight . If you take cap off and it sucks air in your losing water somewhere .
If it aint broke dont fix it !

No none of those what you just put, stuck thermostat, it was checked for gasket problems, all fine, who ever had it before me service the car right, i changed the thermostat, repaired the tank cap and bled the system, working now as it should, last week i took the xar in because the fan would work, my mechinic friend thought it was a failed fan motor but turned out to be a relay, i bought the car for 700 quid and i knew it had problems but those turned out to be a cheap fix.

Problems still to fix, air con, rev counter went wrong last week, air bag and seat belt lights on, dyno states faulty seat belt tensioner the car judders on the clutch so may have new clutch, it goes i monday, my mechinic friend does it on the cheap.

Full service plus other things done, 4 and a half hours lablabour was only 126 quid. Only mechanic i trust, its a 55 mile drive to go to him but well worth it because i trust him.

Cool, i think like this, most things can be fixed, when i tested the car the engine felt smooth and strong, apart from the things i,ve put down it was well worth the gamble, so far its paid off and as most people will know, parts are so cheap for cars like this.
