Hello there, I have a couple of questions about the topics above and I can't get an answer out of Google because I don't really know what to put in.
1. When someone a turbocharged petrol petrol car comes off the throttle the throttle plate closes. The BOV/dump valve releases that air as you don't want it going back through the turbocharger (flutter noise).
What happens when you come off the throttle in a diesel? I understand that they don't have a BOV as there is no throttle plate. So does the air just carry on into the engine? And the ECU puts in less fuel to make the car return to idle?
2. Probably a one word answer this one; when using an impact gun you should use impact sockets as they're less brittle. However alot of time you see on YouTube or garages people using shinny chrome extensions on impacts, how come that is okay but chrome sockets aren't? something to do with transferring of force or thickness?
Any knowledge will be useful, I've just been wondering for a while. Also i'm not bothered about being wrong so if I have any of the basics confused i'm ready to listen.
Not sure if this needs to be in free chat or here, sorry. Happy for it to be moved if i've got it wrong.

An impact socket will split safely if / when it fails.
A normal socket will just shatter in to little pieces of shrapnel.
Its the same story with extension bars, a normal extension will just shatter but in to bigger bits.
You will get away with it for so long but sooner or later a normal socket / extension will fail on an air tool.

I was cleaning up my sockets a while ago and noticed the well-used 17mm one was looking dirty around the socket end .. wrong ... myriads of small cracks ... that wouldn't have lasted 2 mins on an impact driver and I was even dodgy about using it on my breaker bar ... the HDi has 17mm wheel bolts so that is usually how I loosen them.
I've now got a couple of those proper Draper wheel nut sockets in 17mm and 19mm ...

Thanks for the replies! Just questions that have I have been thinking about so thank you for answering.
The second question got a little lost in words, I do that, I meant are chrome extensions safe to use on an air/electric impact?
I think the answer is no but I just thought i'd clarify. Any ideas on the diesel thing?
