Hello, all,

MOT failed today on just this poxy thing..

You know when you turn your key once, all the dash lights come on,

well the ABS Fault / Warning Light does not come on.

ABS tested and works fine -
Seriously so what if the light doesn't work !!!!

Fuses are all ok
ABS thoroughly checked and all ok
Tyres ok
Sensor is ok
Brakes are ok

now, if it is just simply a 5pence bulb behind the dash, does one really really have to strip the dash apart just to fix it ??? !!!

Any ideas, advice, would be immensely appreciated

Regards
Q

You could just replace the whole speedometer.. Just make sure its a lower mileage than your existing and your good to go. Will be a less hassle free way to determine if its a bulb or not.

The ABS warning light / bulb is there to show to the driver the ABS system has passed the self test at start up & also to illuminate while driving if a fault is detected by the ABS system, that is why the ABS warning light bulb is checked for correct operation during the MOT test.

Replace the blown bulb for ABS in the instrument cluster, 2 minute job.

Pull the top cover toward you (only snap fit), loosen one torx screw at theupper center that holds the instrument cluster. Lift it (the cluster) out / angle it towards you.

Disconnect the (IIRC 2) plugs at the back. there's a lock lever at each that you need to flip up before you can pull the connector).

Untwist the bulb/holder in question. Either replace the entire holder/bulb assembly or pull the old bulb out of the holder and push a new one into the holder.

You might be able to get at the bulbs by just angling it without disconnecting the plugs, but might be a bit more fiddly.

Assembly is the same but in reverse.

Ah yes, full HOWTO here: http://www.206info.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic/t=55283.html (except the actual bulb change...)

I agree,no need to change cluster just for a bulb replace.
