I am on my 2nd rear axle in 2 years!
(last replaced this March)
Its been fine up until recently but I am now hearing rattling/knocking noise coming from the rear.
I have checked all the usual things like wheel cage, something loose in boot, loose nuts/bolts, shocks etc and the rear wheels are in line and not wobbly or loose.
I am thinking that it could be the Anti roll bar inside the rear axle may have snapped as I did hear a loud ping when I went over a speed bump a couple of weeks ago and it may be rattling around inside, has anyone else encoutered this problem?

Check the tailgate itself.
Mine started rattling a few weeks ago. Thought it was suspension, parcel shelf, something in the boot. In the end I found a little bit of play when the tailgate was closed which was enough to make a noise over small bumps. 2 minutes and a slight adjustment later, the rattle was gone.
I put it down to people closing the tailgate by just pulling on the edge and then letting it drop from a height. Sometimes it goes with that much of a thud, the car moves on the suspension. I keep trying to tell them to use the handles but they never listen, so now they are not only banned from putting things in the boot, but banned from the car. If they can't respect it, they can get a taxi.

Checked tailgate wasn't that!
Its weird because the wheels do look in line no camber and only 0.5cm difference from wheel arch to ground.
Checked heat shield, exhaust, wheel cage, shocks and all secure!
Tried to take out the anti roll bar in the rear axle yesterday but its stuck fast!
even tried the bolt in the hole where the plastic cover is but it would not budge although once I took out the 2 bolts that hold it in place on either side I could move it up and down very easily but could not pull it out.
