Good afternoon! I have decided to join here as I have decided to keep my old 206 for as long as possible. I have a W reg LX that I got a 35000 miles...now on 135000. The only thing I am having an issue with is the idle...now I know it has probably be covered to death and will go through old posts but I am at a bit of a loss. After just getting through the emissions in the MOT I want to try to sort it. I patched the exhaust for the test but it will need replacing as it is blowing again so will be getting a new type approved cat. I have changed the lambda sensor (has just one, pre cat) and has improved a bit. I have tried three idle control valves and the car wouldn't work properly with any of the new ones, so had to put the old one back. Changed the MAF sensor, the injectors and coil pack. Sprayed around to see any air leaks, nothing. Could a cat on its way out cause a rough idle? Any help would be great!

Have you tried cleaning the throttle body? There's lots of posts and a how to on here. This seems to cure most idle issues.

Yeah...taken it off and cleaned it...the car drives well, but the idle is lumpy.

Hi - I have idle issues but mainly when starting from cold - it just starts fine then within 30 seconds I get lumpy idle and the whole car vibrates for a minute or so until it gets a little heat into it (up to the first segment) and then it runs fine - then I get reasonable idle but not 100% perfect - I have changed the camshaft sensor - the ICV - plugs (now Bosch) and coil pack - cleared all the faults stored - still the idle isnt good - I wonder if changing both lambas will help?

Thanks for the feedback. Is the knock sensor an easy thing to change? I don't know where its located. The timing....forgive me but I don't know what that is! I am going to replace the cat next month and get the rest of the exhaust checked for leaks Wink

The Knock Sensor is very easy job to be done,just a bolt holds it to the engine,usually it's located under the intake manifold with a plug with 2 pins.

Not as yet. Had the new cat and its not as noisy...the old cat was cattle trucked! But it seems to run a bit rich and the lumpy-ness is still there. I had to drive to High Wycomb the other day (I am in Medway) and to tell the truth the car is good on the motorway...fuel isn't going rapidly...but the idle is not right, and the MOT is always a nightmare as it just gets through...I think I know were the knock sensor is but I can't get to it. I did have a problem in 2013 with a misfire and, bad I know, but due to having no money drove it on three cylinders for about three weeks...it was awful as you can imagine, but I changed the injectors and it was then okay. Could I have done any damage to the engine when driving it misfiring? If I fill my car up and drive like an old fart the most I have got (last month) was 470 miles...that was being super careful...but it seems to be using fuel correctly.
