I've recently bought a 2000 (W) 1.4 KFX that has a couple of small driving problems.
The first is an intermittent reluctance to start on some mornings. Seems to be okay on subsequent starts throughout the day.
The second and more problematic is a distinct hesitancy to accelerate above anything but Driving Miss Daisy speed! As soon as the revs hit around 2500 the engine appears to hold back as if hitting a limiter although eventually you can ride through this...if the road is long enough.
The previous owner had replaced the coilpack and plugs, fuel filter, battery, catalytic converter and o2 sensor and had a diagnostic which then appeared to point to the ECU.
I checked all the above too(Just for piece of mind) and then linked it into diagtool and it gave me:Engine ECU Intermittent fault. Mixture regulation function.
This fault can be caused by:
-Damaged connection or harness.
-Faulty control unit calibration.

I inspected the harnesses around the engine and everything seems intact so in an attempt to sort the problem, I purchased a second hand ECU,ignition, key and black ring. The numbers are exactly the same as the cars own.
I changed them over but not sure if I'd done it correctly, the car turned over but refused to start at all, again plugged diagtool in and it tells me the ECU is not responding. Changed it all back and it starts but still the original problem.
Anyone have any ideas that could shed some light on this please? I'd be very grateful, the car may be old but it's in sterling nick and I'd hate to scrap it.

Have you ever thought that it got the wrong gearbox fitted and that is why you can't accelerate!!!

Thanks for the reply Smile
It feels more like fuel starvation to me...Problem is still very apparent, however I've an appointment with a friendly auto Electric/Diagnostic geezer on Tuesday afternoon...Let's see what he makes of it!

Update

Rather annoyingly and going against what the previous owner lead me to believe......This turned out to be a badly fitted cambelt....a tooth out!

But at last problem solved!
