so im getting a knocking noise when starting the car. once its ticking over it stops, seems to be when the engine is shuddering to life just before it starts to idle. Took it for its MOT today dropped car off and no noise at all, go to pick it up and it's knocking. could it be something the garage has done or something like an engine mount that just had bad timing?

Was it knocking before you took it in? If not i'd take it back and ask them to take a look.

Usually a knocking sound when starting the engine means you have one or more engine mounts needs to replace it,the engine have 3 mounts by the way, left one,and right one,and a lower one.

Could also be the main crank pulley. Some are rubber mounted and the rubber deteriorates ..
Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.
