Just noticed that my rear wiper appears to have shifted a bit counter-clockwise.

It's always stopped horizontal to the right, aka 3 o'clock (as seen from behind the car). Can't say that I recall if the sweep went to 10 o'clock or all the way to 9...

The car is left hand drive if that makes a difference, though going by online pics of RHD cars, they also seem to park it at 3 o'clock..

Noticed this morning that the wiper was parked at about 2 o'clock and sweeps down to 9 o'clock, ie at least the parking position shifted ~1 hour counter clockwise.

Otherwise everything works as usual, on/off, washer etc.
Haven't had any frost yet, so no chance of it having been frozen to the glass. Gave the arm a wiggle and can feel no play, so doesn't appear to be an issue of stripped splines on the axle.
Both parking position and sweep is is consistent and the sweep doesn't go past the glass.

It's not an overly critical issue, but I'd prefer it with the wiper parked out of view, and also the lower right corner swept rather than the left, as I actually see the right corner through the mirror , but the left is obscured by myself...

Anyone that's seen this before and/or has any ideas as to what might be up?

Just take it off & reposition it. If it goes again the splines could be wearing out.

I could do that, but not knowing the cause of the shift I'm a bit worried about it shifting back and then going down off the glass on the right.

BTW, anyone that can confirm where their [functioning normally] wiper goes to on the left side? Fully to 9 o'clock or does it turn back earlier?
Would be interesting to know if it's merely a shifted position or if the sweep is shortened...

Mine functions correctly as far as I know. At rest, it is at 3 o'clock in your terms, and at 10 o'clock at full extent. I would say the swept area is around 150 degrees.

I don't know if you can see the sweep, but this is the rear of mine I knew you would want this so left the screen dirty on purpose ..

Mine's the same 'width', but rotated counter clockwise ~30 degrees

Haven't played with it any more - no garage and crap weather, cold and wet or colder. Guess next step is to pull the arm and have a look at the splines even though I felt no play. No rush since it works, just a bit annoying.

Would be interesting to know how the internals of the motor/mechanism works - if it could be something in there or not, and whether there's any chance/risk of it correcting itself. Wouldn't want to shift the arm on the axle to compensate, only to suddenly have it sweep down to 4 o'clock...
Just hope it doesn't shift further.

Just remembered I posted this question here and thought I'd post a followup.
Turned out that the splined aluminium tube cast into the plastic arm had managed to work loose from the plastic and then jam tight again - so solidly I didn't think it was the problem.
Left it alone for a while but then I also needed to change the blade, so I decided to get the blade + arm via the slow boat from China, and replace the lot.
When trying to remove the arm off the motor axle I used a bit more force than in my previous checks and the arm popped loose but left the alu tube solidly on the axle.
Had to resort to a thin cutting disc in a Dremel type tool to get the aluminium tube off the axle, slitting it lengthwise on two sides, 180 degrees apart, and coluld then remove the halves. Cleaned out the splines on the axle from some corroded aluminium and put on the new stuff with a bit of grease in there.
