I need help!! I have searched through the forum but can't seem to find the answer. I have got a pug 206 SW 1.4hdi . The car has just failed it's not due to the airbag light. I have had the car plugged into a diagnostic machine and it shows no fault codes!! The mechanic looked to see what airbags are active and it states that the drivers airbag is not active! My mechanic suggest that we replace the comms unit as the quib?? Might be damaged, this has been replaced and still the airbag light is on!! Can anyone shed any light on this? The car was involved in an accident about 6 years ago and had its airbags replaced. It is baffling him and me so any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Really needs a spin on Peugeot Planet & see what faults are logged in the Airbag ecu.

Generic / some professional code readers can struggle to read certain fault codes.

Also there are 2 different specs of airbag ecu used on the multiplexed 206 depending on level of SRS equipment fitted & there not interchangeable!

Even incorrect airbag configuration will cause the warning light to come on.

There is also one condition that will cause the warning light to come on BUT not record a fault code as its not an actual fault but human error during ecu configuration set up.

It needs to be scanned on Peugeot Planet.

Ok I'll see how to go down that route! Just to add the airbag light only came on after the accident, when the car was repaired the steering wheel wasn't set straight, and it's only when they reset it the light came on!

As MrBSI Said - Get it scanned on Planet.

Personally I reckon it'll be the clockspring (squib) which on these cars is a built in part of the comm2000 unit. The clockspring on its own is replacable if you have the know how and a spare comm unit of any kind.

If you do get it scanned on planet, let us know what the outcome is - If it is the clockspring I'm based in Gloucester and would happily do the repair for cost of parts (sadly I don't have planet at the minute due to a very dead laptop - But I should have that sorted in a week)

My cars:
206 Urban 1.4 8v 3dr '56 - China Blue - 70k Miles - Climate control retrofit, cruise control retrofit - Dead (Breaking)

206 GLX 1.4 8v 3dr '03 - 100k Miles - Obsidian Black - Black masked headlights + front fogs, Faster sunroof, Colour matched exterior trim - SOLD

206 2.0 GTI 138 '03 - 58k Miles - Onyx Black - 17" 180 Alloys - Current

206 2.0 GTi 138 '03 - 120k Miles - China Blue - New Track Toy (ON THE WAY)

We have already replaced the comms unit, perhaps it's another faulty one? My electrical mechanic has suggested that when the steering wheel was reset (which is when the light came on) it may of shorted out and the airbag computer needs replacing? Thanks for the offer of trying to repair it, but I am based in Kent , so it's abit of a trek lol

Airbag ECUs aren't too expensive just make sure you match the serial numbers because IIRC there are two types that are not interchangeable.

& cross your fingers the configuration set up inside the airbag ecu is exactly the same else you will need Peugeot Planet to change it before it will work.

Now that I did not know. If the setup is incorrect what would happen? Just a fault or total annihilation of the car?

Airbag warning light would be on all the time & AIRBAG FAULT showing on multifunction display.

If the SRS equipment fitted to the car doesn't match up with the configuration settings inside the airbag ecu then the system will fail the self test at start up.
