Hi i need help trying to find a suitable cheap replacement fan/aux belt Tensioner as mine has seized up making it impossible to change the belt without it.

i have seen two types:

www.eurocarparts.com/e...741&000112

www.eurocarparts.com/e...0d3&000112

ive had a look everywhere and can not find which one i need.

my car is :

peugeot 206 1.4i petrol
2000 model with air con

the garage were looking at just over £150 for the new part and belt with fitting etc.

thanks

Lee

If you don't mind buying used I got mine from a breaker for £5. If you don't mind travelling I have one in Gloucester that's yours for a fiver. It's covered 60k miles and it's the style of the second link you sent.

Yours will most likely be the style of the second one. If you want to make sure then PM me your VIN and I will check for you.

Fitting is simple on the 1.4 8v engine. You'll need some decent sockets and a decent breaker bar. The tensioner is held on with 2 10mm (IIRC) bolts and should just wiggle out. Swap the tensioners and then use a socket, set to loosen because it's a left hand thread, on the centre of the new tensioner. This will give you the wiggle room to place the new belt over the top. Then you're home free.

Hope that helps

Ouch on those prices, when I did the cambelt on my GTi last year, I picked up a genuine gates (peugeot OEM supplier) aux belt kit which included a new tensioner, guide pulley, the belt, and new bolts for just over £50 including delivery.

I'm running out of places to source a cheaper part trust my car to use the expensive version tensioner. And I'm guessing that you can't swap them either? Guess I better raise some cash if the scrap dealer hasn't got any.

May sound stupid but have you tried Peugeot? They are often cheaper than some parts suppliers.

Also check carparts4less as this is ECP's internet only shop .. sells a bit cheaper and there are discounts available. Try DISCOUNT15 at the moment.

Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.

Did you not look at the links I posted above? You can have the entire kit including the new tensioner, guide pulley, bolts and belt for £62?

just go this

www.carparts4less.co.u...dc6&000112

this was the part that was going to cost me £90 from the garage, so brought that and then getting them to source a new belt and fit them

so hopefully saved a few bob

the links you posted were not the correct tensioner for my car I've had a look at my car now i know where im looking and the above link was the correct part needed

the other is for 206s from 2002 onwards whilst the one i ordered is for models up to 2002 so thats the year they decided to replace the tensioner with a cheaper sourced part. Hence why my stupid car has a different more expensive tensioner Sad

If you have a decent socket set and a couple spanners then this job will be simple to do on the drive Smile

It's always sensible to go to the garage for a bit of insurance on a job. That's something I don't think I'll ever learn Very Happy Instead I just moved right next to my work lol.

Best of luck and hope it all goes well!
