Recently done a diesel filer change on my 2001 206 HDi (pre-plex) and things didn't go to plan and the car had trouble staring, mostly just shut off after 5 seconds idling. (I had something similar 2 years ago but the car was in limp mode/30MPH cap and somehow fixed itself...)
Had the filter in and out just to check for anything I may have missed but found nothing.
Eventually the car did start and I was able to drive it around for 10 minutes and when I pulled over, idling, it kept running until I shut the engine off.
So made some progress but now I have a Engine Management Light on.
Someone gave me one of those ELM327 OBD2 adapters and I tried 3 or 4 apps to see if I could reset the code. While I was able to see the codes, I couldn't reset them. There were other codes but the latest was:
P0230 Fuel Pump Primary Circuit Malfunction.
Next I tried to see if I could get a reset tool but they all seem to work with diesel 2004 and onward.
So next question is, is there a OBD2 Reset Tool for 1998-2001 206 2.0 HDi (diesel)?
Furthermore is there anything else I could do to clear this code?

You'll probably need PP2000 for a diesel of that age. EOBD wasn't standard until 2004 for oil burners.
Most off the shelf code readers won't read properly and likely to give you a code that isn't the right one. Had that with our 2002 1.4 HDi a lot.
Sealey did a specific Peugeot/Citroen code reader.

Thanks man, I see you can get them on eBay and need a XP laptop! lol
But the car decided to clear the code itself after an hours drive...which is weird but glad it's running ok again.

Spoke too soon, after fueling the car it started as normal but when I turned it off, the key was OFF but the engine was still on for a few seconds. Didn't like it but thought I'd find out in the morning if all is OK.
Next morning engine check light and in limp mode, sluggish and hitting 2.5K RPM max. Same bs as I had before...
I picked up a PP2000 v50 supposed to work with Windows 7 so will have a go as I don't trust garages to take me for a ride and start changing for things it doesn't need done. I'm sure it's just due to the fuel filter change as the car was running fine up until the service.
PS anyone else find the WIX Bosch filters hard to install? My local motor factor only stocks them, they used to do another type with 'wavy' pattern that was easy to install and never had issues, it was only when it was replaced by the WIX one I stated having issues.
Also I read on a 306 2.0 HDi thread with similar issues, that the whole filer assembly should be replaced instead of just the filter.
Isn't that a bit excessive?

Not familiar wit the 2.0 diesel filter but on the 1.4and our Clio diesel the filters are sealed units and have simple plug in connectors. Swapped out the connections like for like (colour coded on Clio) and primed the unit with the hand pump ..
Have you also got the Lexia cables to go with PP2000??? Software is half the story!

pp2000 will only work with xp 32 bit and as gazza sais the software is only half the battle. You will need the lexia3 cable
This will need plugging into to find out whats going on. You said the filter was normally easy to fit but this one was difficult. In what way was it difficult? Is it possible you have the wrong filter? Or the fuel lines connected the wrong way round? Having the lines the wrong way would potentially cause a blockage and maybe cause the symptoms your having.

Sorry, I'm new to Lexia 3/PP2000/Diagbox what ever it is! lol Still not sure what is what exactly.
I got a PP2000 kit off ebay, the latest version that works with Windows 7 32-bit. And yes it includes ALL the cables and has the latest chip, it's not the 45 quid one...
I was prepared and dug out a XP 32-bit (recommended) and a Windows 7 laptop, took hours to install the damn software v7.02 IIRC I didn't bother going higher yet...anyway in the end only the Windows 7 laptop allowed the tool to connect to the car XP had failed me...glad I had the Windows 7. Even then I had to yank the USB in out everything to get it to connect...
So I was able to get in and look thru past/current codes, there were a few: MAF, EGR, Fan, AC, Fuel Pump and Solenoid and some others I can't remember, I did many mods...
The main code is P1138, seems to plague the HDi engine, so I tried to diagnose the fault...then I addressed the faults and went to clear the ecu of faults 2/50 slots used.
Went back to check the codes and P1138 still remains. Requested to strop but doesn't fault.
It's the same old, car starts fine, Engine Management Light flashed, car stuck in limp mode 2.3k RPM, (may or may not cut out while driving), when key is turned to OFF engine overruns for a few seconds.
The current WIX filer jams on the shaft of the top lid and if you screw up and remove the lip, the filter comes out to and the you have to prise it off.
I just picked up another BOSCH filer and will try it.
Any help with how I can fix the P1138 code would be appreciated but looking at other posts, there isn't an obvious fix...and the title of the post is unrelated.
PS P1108 also remains but I took out the AC to fit a FMIC...

Decided to retire the 206 as I picked up a clean low mileage 207 1.6 HDi which is amazing.
Getting tired of the cat and mouse games with the 206, 170K ain't bad, it's time for the crusher.
Thanks for all the help guys.
