Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

I recently brought a 206 1.4 year 2000 with 89000 miles on the clock. The car has had a misfire which was quite clear due to the studdering whilst accelerating and looks of power especially up hills.

The car has had this problem no matter if hot or cold, different rpm, short journeys and long. I changed the plugs as this was as my first job this made no change. Today whilst on the m25 going to pick up parts I dropped down to 4 and 3000rpm when suddenly I felt the car pick up more power and the misfire stop. As we hit traffic the revs fluctuated and dropped to around 200rpm but rose back to 1000rpm on their own a few times.

The rest of the way home around a 40 minuets drive the car ran like a whole new vehicle loads more power and pulling like it should the rpm seemed to settle also at just over 900rmp at idle.

I’m thinking maybe a blockage of some sorts cleared it’s self has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I don't have any personal experience of it, but it sounds like you are describing a coil pack fault/issue. I'm on my phone so can't really give you the link, but try searching both here and on YouTube for this problem and see if it sounds similar to what you are experiencing. If so it's not a hugely expensive or difficult fix.

Sounds exactly how our CC acted up when the coil pack started to fail. Dropped a couple of cylinders at random and usually when you needed the power .. on the M25!

Watch out for "Mix" of parts as some packs don't work with some makes of spark plug. You can probably find out using the search option on this forum. I think it might be Sagem coilpack and NGK plugs?


We are assuming your 1.4 is a 1.4 PETROL as they also made a 1.4 hdi diesel version .. which obviously doesn't have a coil pack!!




If you suffer with loss of power in an hdi then I would suggest checking the catalyst as when ours had problems the cat internals had collapsed! Became a ball shape which would roll over the exhaust outlet and block it. Because one side stayed flat if it rolled the right way the car was fine!!

Down to just the 1.4 HDi. Cayman Green 2.0i CC sold.

NGK spark plugs & / or Sagem coil packs are both not welcome on a TU powered 206.
Toyota C-HR GR Sport 2.0 Hybrid with JBL & Alcantara packs.

Thanks for the reply guys. Yes it is the 1.4 petrol. It’s been running fine ever since it happened. I have a spare coil pack now so if it happens I will change and see what happens.

Mrbsi do you mean a sagem coil pack and NGK plugs will not work together?

I currently have NGk plugs and the old ones where also NGK.

That might be the problem then. Junk the NGKs. That's the cheaper solution.

What make is the spare coil pack?

Throw the NGK plugs in the nearest bin - they can upset the ecu's phase misfire detection system.

Bosch plugs are fine, a set of Bosch Super + plugs are perfectly fine.

Bosch FR7DC+ are what i run in my TU3.

My daughter had water in the pickup trunking (see white smoke limp home topic) But had flagged a fault code for the coil pack which was replaced and the car ran better for a while £28 for an ebay coil pack (greyplug) £12 to swop the crank sensor which had played up and needed replacing in the past and while removing the airbox found the water and a saturated filter.
This wasnt anything I expected to find but water and a wet filter certainly fitted the clues so check the filter it takes second and you can look down to the bottom of the air trunkinking I think every time the engine sucked in water mist it caused a sudden knock that put the ecu into limp home mode.
