CD's GTi

I had a 1.1 206 for a year and got pretty fed up of it being so slow (had an Audi A4 1.9 before) so I sold that (for a profit Smile )

I really love the look of 206's so I started looking into GTi's & 180's
180's were out of my price range at the time so I found myself what seemed to be a nice GTi with only 2 previous owners.
However it was up in North Wales.

I traveled up on the train for 5 hours with a BAD case of food poisoning & I hadn't slept in 2 days Sad
Got there and it seemed pretty nice, only a couple of small marks and I knocked down the price since a fog light didn't work Smile

Day one the trouble started Laughing
I drove down to Swansea since I was going to stay with my girlfriend for a few days, got about 100 miles away from the dealer and the exhaust got louder... turned out the clamp for the rear silencer had come loose...
I stopped at a services and a kind AA man removed the backbox since it had been handing down very low.
So I was now driving with a bad case of food poisoning, deprived of sleep and had a terrible headache from the droning exhaust.

Got to Swansea and got a lot of funny looks from the locals, I luckily found a garage that would fit a new clamp on a Saturday at short notice so I got that done, £35.

On the 150 miles back to my house I noticed that the ride was a bit bumpy and the car was kind of veering about.
Turned out the front tyres were illegal and the wishbones needed replacing. £450
I exchanged a few letters and phone calls with the dealer and got a sum of money to cover the tyres.

The brakes needed replacing as they had a large lip, £200.

Next up was checking whether the cam-belt had been done as the delaer didn't know.
I found the garage that used to service the car, turned out that the previous owners reason for sale was that it was soon due a cambelt change Razz
So another £400

It then behaved its self for a while, about 6 months. (Bar the Airbag Fault, more on that later)

Then one night at 1am when I was giving a friend a lift home after a night out, bang goes the engine, well more like a complete loss of power.
It turned out that the timing belt tensioner had failed and the cambelt slipped = pistons and valves colliding.

I was quoted £1200 for an engine rebuild, I queried that the car had only done 5k miles since the cambelt, tensioner & waterpump were changed and after a lot of phone calls, letters, busses and lifts, the garage gave in and agreed to rebuild the engine under warranty Very Happy

How the garage left the engine when they diagnosed it.
There were bits all inside the car too.

So after a month off the road I was back on with a sweet running GTi Smile

Next on the list of things to do was to get the 'Airbag Fault' sorted out. When I bought the car I was told that it had a faulty Com2000 and replacing that ought to sort the problem so £250 was taken off the sale price.

I bought a used Com2000 from here, turned out to be faulty so I returned it to the seller and it got damaged in the post Sad
So for my birthday I asked my dad for an exciting Com2000 unit Razz
Light goes off and stops beeping at me when ever I start the car Smile

Next day... it comes back on, damn I was angry Laughing
Took it back to my local dealers to be sorted and turned out it was a dodgey connection under the seat.
Light stays off for about 3 months then came back on Mad
Its currently at Peugeot having a diagnostic Sad
So one way or another its going to cost me £88 for the labour & it its the com2000 again it will be under warranty, but if its the wiring it will be extra Rolling Eyes

Parts replaced:
Engine Head
Driveshafts
Wishbones
Droplinks x 2
Struts & components
Com2000 x2
PPT40
Tyres x6
Windscreen
Exhaust x 3
Brakes x 4
Engine breather hose
Lambda sensors x 2
Airbag wiring
Rear Lights
Wing Mirror
Heater blower motor
Battery
Fog Light

More to add once I'm home and have a look through its folder/book full of invoices Razz

I now know that the car ought to last some time yet and it will soon be going for a re-spray. Only thing I'm worried about is the clutch, lets hope it lasts a good while yet! (Touches wood)

A few recent pictures

Had a go at colour coding a month or 2 back.

Taken it off for the warmer summer months.

Phase 2 boot strip
(Lion badge has been added now)

Painted brake calipers + brembo discs & mintex pads.

Out in the New Forest with a friend in his 205 GTi

Wowsers! A lot of money spent on this, but at least the blow to your wallet was softened with the garage/dealers agreeing to cover the most expensive cost.

ouch, after owning one 206 why did you buy another?! (only jesting).

unfortunately most of the problems were down to a lack of care from the last owner, and a bit of being a 'made on a friday afternoon' car. hopefully you'll not have much to do to it from now on, other than servicing.

you should invest in a PP2000 cable. it's the price of 2-3 dealer visits.

I should have kept the 1.1 Laughing
It only needed a new Radiator & clutch in 1 year!

Next car will not be French!

Well I went to Peugeot to collect my car and argued the case that for £88 they hadn't diagnosed anything. I'll be taking it back in tomorrow morning for a free hours diagnostic.
Bloody scammers! Laughing
