Not alot has really been done this week. The 205 GTi wheels are now gone so the cars sitting on the steelies.

I've thought about doing something different with the centre console and will be fitting x3 2" (52mm) Mechanical Gauges across the area where the vents are.

I've taken the bar thats in the centre and am now waiting to choose the gauges I want and once here I will be getting to work working that area so it runs the same shape as the rest of the centre console and fit the gauges evenly in that space. I want the car to be looking OEM and not have something thats half hanging out and the minute you bend down to get something it's gunna crack your head open.

 


 


The three gauges I'm gunna most probably get are; PSi Boost, Air/Fuel Ratio and Oil Pressure as quite a few people have recommended having them.

Not really done much to this really since the last update as I've been really tied up with Uni work and trying to get that completed. The centre console has been given to a mate of my dads who does custom installs on the side for people. Dad's explained exactly what needs to be done and he's gunna sort it out. Hopefully have it back end of this week/start of next week. Still deciding on the dials & sizes. Have thought I might have 1 60mm in the centre i.e. the PSI Boost just so it's more promenant then the other two and then have 2 52mm gauges i.e. a/r ratio and also oil pressure.

I think the most important thing we've been working on when I've had the chance is the getting the 406 seats in. My dad measured the area and had some bars made to size which we first bolted into place using the existing holes. The seats would then be mounted on top of these with the bolts in the correct places.

 


These brackets pictured would be what bolted the seat to the bar.

 


Basically once they were in we mounted the seats to find the area in the middle was hitting the motors on the bottom of the seats. Also they were too short height wise. So those bars were made redundant and were then replaced for these blocks made out the same bars just taller in height and sort.

 


We had to modify one of mounting points by the exhaust tunnel by removing the threaded piece that sat next to the hole.

After that we bolted all the blocks in and got about bolting the seat into place; this pics just to show you how everything went together.

 


We had to flatten the one of the mounting points on the seat and twist the blocks abit to make the seat mount correctly.

 


Once that was done the seat looked like this;

 


But when closing the door I found that the switches for the seats were causing the door card to cave in;

 


So what we are going to do is move the switches and lengthen all the wiring + modify the surround and move the switches into the footwell on the centre;

 


Only place we could move it with it being a really big job i.e. doorcards i.e. mercedes style.

After that I fitted the 406 light sunvisors which require alot of modification to get to sit right including some modifications to the existing mounting points. But got them finished and look like this;

 


 


Also got my caution sticker stuck next to the important airbag sticker...please note this only applies to fittys Wink

 


I get some pics of the centre console once it's home. Need to get the wiring looms out of the 406 for the seats and get it fitted in so the seats are all moving etc. Also the drivers side seat will be fitted once the body repairs have been done...purely because I done want it getting knackered from sparks flying onto it etc. I'm really pleased with the seats. Nice seating position and really comfy Very Happy

Well popped upto the 406 today and set about opening up the interior loom to seat looms out;

 


Managed to get all the passenger side wiring out;

 


Also got the heating switches and the switch holder out of one of the 206 we have. Need to modify the holder/switches abit so they fit in correctly.

Now all I need to get out is the drivers side seat looms, heating wiring and also the memory ecu;

 


 


 


 


Also got the blocks painted up so they didn't stick out like a sore thumb...painted then in gloss black.

 


Got the centre console back all fibreglassed up...just need to tidy it up and apply a few skims of filler and make it into the shape i'm after.

Well had to move the car around as I need to have access all round with fitting the seats and where it was park I didn't had enough room to open the doors. So started moving it. As I move it I start hearing a scrapping noise...as I go over a tiny lip (only a cm height) it gets louder. I reverse back and try doing at an angle over it but still the same.

So I have to reverse back and remove the bumper and put it to one side. But as I put it to one side I noticed this;

 


Anyone else agree that I need to raise the car?

Yep could have been but the second time around it did seem like the bumper was gunna get ripped off.

I'm going to raise it by 30mm tomorrow so it's sitting at about 90mm and see how it goes. I'll adjust it properly once I've got the tyres for the Nimrods.

Got the centre console all tidied up i.e. fibreglass all levelled out etc and got it into it's first skim of filer.

 


 


Once it's set etc I'm gunna get it all rubbed down and if it needs another fill I'll put another lighter skim just to correct it completely.

Hopefully have it done by the end of today.

Hopefully Saturday I should be getting a set of 15" 406 Nimrods which I've already decided I'm going to be using as my winter wheels.

I will be getting them refurbed and the colour I've chosen is 'Hot Pink'.

 


What does everyone think to this..?

It is a pretty big job as I've gotta still work out how much I need to lengthen the wiring looms for the seat controls so I can fit them in a new place...I think I'm more swaying towards the doorcards now as I don't think the centre console would be a very comfortable place to put them. I need to get the passenger seat back out to get the wiring loom for that seat i.e. heating, controls and earth channeled through the hole thats in the carpet for the airbag wiring and along the centre section. Also still need to get all the wiring loom for the drivers side seat etc.

But I've tided up the wiring loom for the passenger seat.

 


This is all thats needed for this side (red plug is earth, brown plug is for the moving and the yellow plug is for the heating)...the drivers side seat has all the main controls and the wiring loom itself is about 10x the girth of that.

Need to also see if I can find the side panels for the seats off a non-electric equivalent. I need these to replace the ones I already have as once I've taken the controls out I'll be left with a fairly large hole.

Also spent a small part of yesterday morning working on the centre console. It still needs quite abit of work doing to it but currently looks like this;

You take 1 406 electric seat controller;

 


take it apart and apply leather to it;

 


and be left with this.

 


Hopefully this will blend in with the rest of leather on the doorcard. I need to get the doorcards modified so I can slot these in and get the wiring extended out through the doors and back to the seats.

Got the switch from the drivers 406 seats fitted into the drivers door card.

Abit of an update;

I've retrimmed the glovebox door and also this time I retrimmed the gloveboox door handle;

 


Once I up the two parts back together it looked abit weird so I took the glovebox door handle back off and trimmed the area under glovebox door handle aswell. Like so;

 


Once that was done I was then wrapped the surround for the headlight lever and also the airbag switch aswell as the fuseboard cover which I previously did in suede;

 


Once that was all done i fitted the drivers doorcard and as I was fitting it the controllers for the seats fell out. As it fell out I found that I was hitting the area where the winder is placed. So I'm going to building some sort of a holder in which I'll be able to place the controls in yet wont hit the door internals.

 


But overall this is how the drivers side is looking;

 


I've got one last update which a few people know about already but all will be unrevealed soon Very Happy
