Go and drive a few different cars and a 180 then make your decision. If i owned a 206 GTi i wouldnt want another 206 TBH, but only you can really decide.

Not keen on the idea of a bike, my girlfriend wouldn't appreciate it

What are the ground rules, I'm guessing you have an age limit and mileage limit, always a good starting point to go with your budget. Otherwise your just going to get lists of knackered old skylines and impreza's with 4000000bhp for £2995 ono.
I know alot of people won't agree but instead of laying out 4k i'd finance up something a year or so old and have an easy life! |
I'd like something no older than 2004. Mileage no higher than 60k
Not interested in an Evo or Impreza (yet) will wait till I'm 22 'till I get onto the 'big boy' stuff
Nor do I want the monthly installments paying for a new car, got enough of that already.

TBH I'd stick with what you've got, save some more money and get a few more ncb's under your belt.
Then i would look for something really nice!

But I'm bored of my GTi
I've got 2 years NCB & it doesn't really change a lot when I get 3.

Not to be argumentative but where do you draw the line with 'saving up for something nice' in my experience everything i want is about 2k more than i want to spend then when i sort that 2k out something better is another 2k more.....never ends if you take the 'saving up' route. Hence why i finance everything! your capped each month then regardless

If you are bored of your gti, then the 180 option doesnt seem a sensible choice. They arent exactly gonna blow your socks off and its fundamentaly the exact same car. I was pretty underwhelmed with a 180 and i drive a d-turbo!
If you think your gti will give you a few more years hassle free motoring, then stick with it - you have invested cash into it so recoup your expense through usage, as you wont be able to sell it for more. I think if you 'have' to have something different, change manufacturer all together.

Thats not bad!
I've just been looking at S3's but they're a bit too thirsty & for one with a lower milage the price is too high.

Me too.
I have to question who said a 180 is essentially the same as the gti. I've never driven the 180 granted, but having spoken to lots of people who have, they have all said there is a world of difference between the two.
I like the 206, so will be going back once my gf has finished uni/I get my promotion *touch wood*. I had a V reg Gti and it was brilliant, I loved the look of the car and for the budget I would have in mind (same as CD's - £4k), there's not much out there that can get you a similar car for a similar price. Maybe a 182, but I've heard terrible things about comfort and legroom for us bigger boys!!

Apart from a few extra horses and no spare tyre it is - isnt it? Maybe a few more toys too. Certainly not enough to relieve gti boredom for more than a couple months surely?
Plus my main point was stick to his current motor if its fairly reliable.
