What are you trying to achieve with the fuel additive?

In which case it's completely pointless if you don't know what you're trying to achieve. You get different additives for different purposes. Most of the time though, if your car has been serviced and looked after you will not need to use them.

if you really need to recondition your injectors, get it done properly.
in most case those fuel addictive you bought won't do anything.

I used 10K Boost Diesel De-coke on my Saab 9-3 and it worked an absolute treat, helped to clean the EGR, the engine pulls and runs alot smoother.
Never had to use any additives on the 206 HDI 2.0 and its on 128k from new.

Fuel additives always seem like snake oil to me. I can't really see why a serviced engine would need them.
Still, I don't see why using it on a higher mileage car would hurt. What additive is it?

in stead of using the additive why not run a few tanks of ultimate diesel or it's equivilant through
surely it would work better

I'd get your injectors properly cleaned if that's what you're after.
The injector cleaners do a little but won't resolve major issues.

As with 'most' additives, any fuel e.g Shell, Mobile, Total etc which claim to have special properties for cleaning injectors and or enabling the vehicle to run better and give better mpg will cost you in the long run. You'll not find anything 'special' when driving the car after you have filled up, except that you have paid 2-3p per litre more.
Read some of the diesel forum's to see what the majority think of additives in fuel.
A total waste of money but then it is your money you are wasting.
