No1 injector had failed causing No4 to come out in sympathy as apparently they are 'paired' - replaced faulty injector, car is better than before (injector must have been on way out for a while Smile )

1.1 8v 2000, been running rubbish for a fortnight now... have swapped over MAP sensor, throttle pos sensor, 2x stepper/idle air control valve, coilpack.
Got all the bits from local scrappys to swop round but probably still there. Messing round with it just before & have discovered 1 & 4 cylinder arent firing - could it just be Ive been REALLY unlucky & got another duff coilpack?
I know its not plugs as Ive swapped them round the cylinders & then found it runs the same with plugs in cyls 2 & 3 ONLY as it does with them in all 4. I had coilpack out & checked sparks & all 4 were sparking but they didnt look as big as I mightve expected.
Would it be more likely for 1 & 4 not to fire as they are at the ends of the coilpack (& maybe the voltage is dropping off more?)

Have been wondering bout injectors, 1 & 4 plugs are wet when Ive took them out after cars been running but (again) not really stinking of petrol, just thought that heat of engine was evaporating fuel & drying them.
Any easy way to test injectors? is it worth bunging anything in the tank to maybe try & clean/clear them? Every now & again it will run ok for about 10-20 seconds, you can hear the engine note change & itll rev fine, then it goes back to before Sad
Its a 2000 car (pre plex) does it still have BSI? didnt think it had Confused thought it was just a 'standard' ecu.
Car was fine 1 minute, then just big loss of power (well as big as you can get in a 1.1 thats still running LOL)

Have stripped injectors out, seals look ok not cracked or damaged - no. 1 was a nightmare to get out, others werent too bad.
Now - is it possible to check if the injectors are working by connecting them back to the fuel rail & cranking the engine to (hopefully!) see if there's fuel being sprayed out??

(Note i didnt ask if it was safe, just is it possible LOL)

Cheers

EDIT - intake manifold & throttle body etc are all still on the car

HI, sorry for reviving an old post but this post helped me diagnose the problem with my partners 2000 206 ......

we sent it in to have diag check done because it was running on 2 cylinders.. they came back saying there was a probably with injector function control for injectors 1 and 4 .......

so i removed the injectors and turned it over to see the 4 injectors firing fuel evenly ... i replaced the coil pack still same problem . replaced the wiring loom TO the injectors .

still had the same problem...

it had me scratching my head to why it wasnt making a difference ..... eventually i decided to check the injectors coil ressistance to discover injector 4 was reading 3.9 - 4.1 and the rest were reading 15.9 - 16.0 . so i replaced injector 4 with 1 i picked up from a breakers yard (LOL) for a few quid and hey presto .. the car now runs like a dream

my best advice if you think its a similar problem is to check the injectors coil resistance with a with a multi meter!!!!

Estranged - glad my problem & eventual fix was able to help you !! No. 4 injector failure is apparently a common fault as water from the screenwash jet drips onto it... my 'friendly local mechanic' said he knew pretty much straight away it was an injector soon as I told him 2 cyls were off, only surprise to him was that it was No. 1 that had gone (flywheel end)

I haven't been a member for long on here but there's loads of really useful info & *LOTS* of very helpful people Smile
