So, just got back from a fun evening at keevil airfield, drag racing my 306 2.0 HDi for past 2 hours. It is impossible to make the engine hot!!! It's been ragged for 2 hours i say with only small breaks and the temperature reached no higher than 85*C!!!!! plus on it's last service, the cooling fans were confirmed faulty and needed replacing.
Has anyone else experienced this with their 2.0 HDi? I am probaly just crazy as I am so used to my old 206 1.4 reaching 99*c most the time and sticking at 90*c under NORMAL road use

... Surely, this is more about the cooling system, not the engine?
Dad's Audi will happily stick at 90 regardless of speed (and trust me, its been pushed at times)

I guess it is yeh.
Well thats I wonder, because mum's 136bhp 2.0 hdi 407 (pretty much same engine as mine) sticks at around 90*c
What does the cooling system include? just the radiator? Sorry.. novice to engines

Think the coolant will stay at around 90c or you would be in a whole world of boiling and problems.
I bet your oil temperature will have been a tad higher and is the one to be more concerned about!

Most hot peugeots have an oil temp sensor fitted which acts a oil level sensor with the ignition on, temp sensor with engine on, helps keep an eye on things.

well if the coolant temp is taken from near the radiator then possibly waterpump fault ie not pumping so coolant stays in the rad and temp falls, seen this before on golf mk4 gti's a few times. but if the oil temp is staying put the maybe the strengh of the coolant has something to do with this cant be too your tho

85 C and no fans working?
Check your temperature gauge and temperature gauge sensor.
Idealy engines are designed to run at around 90 C coolant temp so the Cat works
properly and lasts as long as possible. Another sepparate temperature sensor feeds
the ECU which uses this parameter (amongst others) to calculate fuel mixture.
EDIT: Yours is diesel so I might be wrong.
