Stupid Plastic Oil Filters!

I was planning to service my car yesterday so i went to pug bought 4 spark plugs, oil, a oil filter and a sump plug ring.

Once the car was on axle stands I drained the oil and set about changing the oil filter. When I finally found a 27mm socket I tried to undo the oil filter. With in about 2 mins of me trying to undo it carefully the bloody plastic nut on top if the air filter shattered.

After that messed up i went and bought some cheep oil from asda to just use with the old filter untill i can get a new plastic housing from pug on monday (hopefully they are not a great deal of money)

Then I went on to fit the spark plugs witch were the wrong ones, so I ended up just cleaning the old ones and putting them back in. Funny thing is I thought pug would know exactly what spark plugs I would need.

After a while of looking around on here I saw a how to change spark plugs on a 1.4 16v and first picture I saw what looked to be the same engine as mine witch now makes me wonder is my car a 1.4 16v? how can you tell?

The only good thing that came of yesterday was i managed to fit my SP grill it looks so good Smile

Sounds like the oil filter is the paper cartridge type (rather than the metal canister type) in which case it's likely to a 1.4 16V.
2001 GTi 138, Bilstein Sprint dampers, H&R springs, 21mm Peugeot Sport torsion bars, 22mm rear ARB, Peugeot Sport Group A wishbones, 283mm discs, Goodridge stainless hoses, Maniflow 304 grade 4-2-1 2.5" manifold and system, 200 cell cat, Richard Longman head, 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies, 9.5mm TB spacers, 90mm air horns, Jenvey throttle linkage, Jenvey fuel rail, Aeromotive and Goodridge fuel fittings and braided hose, ITG sausage filter, Radtec custom radiator, Piper Ultimate Road cams, Piper vernier pulleys, Omex 600 ECU. Saxo electric PAS pump, Vibra Technics engine mounts. Samco coolant hoses, TTV steel flywheel, 4.76 final drive ratio, 307 CC 180 ratios. 2019 BMW 530i. 2017 Mercedes C300 convertible.

Yepp that's the one the paper cartridge. Is there any definite way to tell if the car is 16v or 8v? maybe engine model would help but I don't know where the engine model number is.

Does it have a metal rocker cover or is it plastic? Is the coil pack in the middle of two camshaft housings?

lol OMG i am such an idiot I have had the car for nearly 2 years now thinking it was an 8v. Just got the 206 handbook out and looked at pictures of the engines they have in it and mine is the 16v LOL im soo stupid and I am now over the moon as I now realise my car is more round the 90bhp mark not the 75. Lucky I haven't bought any performance parts yet or that could have been a huge mistake.
