i would struggle for 40mpg in normal driving. |
They are fussy little buggers. I've fitted the trip computer on mine and its useful to find out where you suddenly burn lots of fuel. Like different approaches to even cruising on a main road @ 60mph can mean 35mpg or 45mpg.
Though I got 12mpg the other week while towing the trailer to the local tip...

Im returning 36 in my 1.6, thats at a normal drive,
about 40 grandad style
and 30 boi racer style |
i recon i could get it into the 20's |
I can get mine into the 10s
Average for my little 1.4 8v is 46mpg on a decent run, 40mpg urban. |
Those are on average on full tanks,
I can usually get a nice high of 45 or a nice low of 8 when some t**t thinks he is Alonso

Worked mine out in the XS last week, was 55 over the week, driving like a old man and cruising a lot though
Was well chuffed, considering the area i live in which is pretty hilly
