Last year during the bad weather I kept a sleeping bag in my car just incase. trouble was everyone at work took the mick!!!

In the snow and ice try and keep well away from all the other idiots as there's thousands of people on the roads thatll never have a clue of how to drive in snow. As said plenty of times above find an empty car park (or industrial estate) and get some practice, by the end of last year i could controll my 306 in a sideways slide for about 300 yards

My recomendation... Brakes are your enemy, Drive sensibly, leave enough room from the car in front to stop without using excessive braking, smooth acceleration and deceleration are the key points. anticipate everything before it can happen.

In brief.... you need your front wheels for steering. Dont lock them up or spin them because you will lose your steering. Leave the handbrake for parking or carparks. STEADY WINS THE RACE Thumbs Up

Yeah macj makes a good point that I forgot. If you do need to brake, aim to stop like 5-10 metres back from where you want to stop. That way if you do slide forward a little, you have time to come off the brakes and reapply a couple of times (SLOWLY)

I'm sure I heard that if your driving in deep fresh snow, you can stop quicker by locking your wheels. Apparently a wedge of compacted snow & ice will build up under the wheels & stop the car.

My fuel cap (SP) is a nightmare in snow as the lock freezes - not good when you are super low on fuel because of tail back/accidents and pull onto the forecourt to find the thing won't budge!

I practised small handbrake turns around corners in the snow and find it does really help - but be careful!

I also had my ski and boots in the car ( I work in a ski centre) and so if I get stuck at least I can have some fun!
I won't even mention the details of attaching a rope to the towing eye of a mates car and being pulled along Smile

Won't work if you have ABS

Non-ABS FTW in snow Very Happy

The best bit of advice is don't drive like an idiot. Think ahead... can you stop in time? Will the car in front stop? What hazards could come up? If you feel your car sliding around - then you are driving too fast for the conditions. Careful use of the brakes, accelerator, gears and steering and you will be fine. No sudden actions.


	I wonder why I bother with this place, 4 years and all members do is slag each other off. Even Barry Boys seems a nicer place at times...

i drove from swindon to Norfolk in 3hrs last year in this. It was ace but as said take it easy for your first time also if you lock the brakes lift off and apply again and dont touch the clutch till the last second.
