so at 5:30am the other day ready to go to work, my windscreen was iced over..
I used deicer etc..
When i got in, it had caused the windscreen to go all fogged up. usually in the morning its fine and I can get to work straight away. this time, being late, I did the old:
'I'll drive while looking through this slowly growing clear spot in my windscreen'
as you do, when the roads are so empty at that time.
BAD idea.. Turns out, looking through this small clear spot severely effects your judgement of road placing, and I slammed a wheel into a low granite wall on the left side of the road after about 20 seconds of driving. (yay for cornwall.. they're everywhere)
I shat myself at first, it was so loud I thought it was the bumper!
but I got out and had a look, and it was only my alloy.. but it really did take a hit! 
the pics don't do it justice, it's properly gouged! and yeah, my cars dirty, but at the moment, washing it futile. 5am fast drives on wet country roads do not keep your car clean.
Also yes, they are scuffed already, but this is the worst damage so far!
Needless to say I died a little when I saw it
on the opposite side?

haha I need to do it to all 4 wheels! its repairable though yeah? It looks horrible!
I've never attempted anything like that before. I'm usually good with DIY stuff, but I've never tried alloys!

Try WARM kettle water on the screen. its what I do. Clears it straight away. Just give the wipers a flick first before you put the kettle inside then it doesn't freeze back over again in serious cold.

Don't use boiling water... a friend did, once

Just get the engine and heater on full wack before you de-ice?

Yeah I de-iced it ok, but it left a fog that the heater took ages to clear. I should have just wiped it off but you do stupid things when late for work.. Ironically once I'd done the damage, the screen cleared really quick!

Bad times I slid into a curb down my road in the 206, just couldnt stop and the road is so tight.

Just scrape the ice on the front and put your air con on to demist the inside. I'd rather suffer a bit of cold than suffer a bit of curbing.

In winter I always put a small amount of salt in an old lid and leave it on the dashboard, absorbs the moistures and to this day it's never misted the inside wheres my dads thats parked next to it is all foggy. Used it sine last winter Just pop the salt back inside on a warm radiator to dry out when you go out and sorted

You can also use silica gel packets the same way.

That nearly made me spit juice all over my laptop!
Gutted for you mate, I did very similar damage a few months ago. It is repairable though, Just check that you haven't damaged the inside of it/buckled a spoke.
