Hi there I gotta 52 plate multiplexed 206 1.4hdi that starts really well in all weather even when I forget to wait for the glow plugs to heat up! (yes my other car is petrol).
I've read many people comment about jump starting a flat battery and how it can screw things up on a 206.
Does anyone have a foolproof method or procedure for safely jump starting a 206 only you never know when you might need it. Waiting for a breakdown truck to arrive at Bristol airport on a cold winters evening while wearing very little warm clothing after returning from Tenerife springs to mind.
What experiences have you had good or bad, I gotta feeling this thread could become very relevant to many 206 owners during this cold snap, nothing like it to find out a weak battery.
I suspect Lee might have some useful input on the subject.

Think it's very rare that any problems happen because of it but it isn't unheard of. Think the right answer was charge it but as you said in that situation that wouldn't be possible.

Connect up the car like any other (Neg, then pos).

Wait a few mins.

Turn on the sidelights and sit in the car from then onwards. Don't open doors or anything.

Wait a bit longer.

Attempt to start the car.

I *think* that is the correct procedure. Wait for someone to back it up.

I'm so pleased you posted this as I had to jump start my 206 last month, and hubby argued with me at the time. I always thought you put the pos to the battery and neg to earth, but he was adamant I was wrong. Always said I know more about cars than he does Wink !

i've never had this problem but i do recomend you use a earth not the battery, some cars dont even have access to battery now just pick up points under bonnet. best just not to jump if you can help it i think

Always connect negative first from slave to donor battery.
Irrespective of the BSI consideration a battery explosion will stay with you forever.

what happens if your car is best to connect the positive up first but the doner car is best to connect the negative up first
