Ok so this morning i started the car and the engine idled as normal yet the needle was at 700. i thought this was slightly odd but left it alone. I went home and when i started it again the rev needle idled at 0rpm but when i revved the engine it moved so it was asif 0rpm was 1000rpm if tht makes sense. After a short drive i decided to turn it off and back on to see what happened and this time the needle didnt move at all. The idle speed of the car is as normal but the needle just sits at the bottom. Doesnt even lift off the little pin! All the other dials are fine. Hope you got some ideas..lol Joni

I'm kinda having the same problem, mines been on and off for about 3 weeks now. One day it will be working fine, the next it wont do anything at all. It will stay in active for a few days, then boom! start the car on another and its fine. It's been a wtf situation from the start, but hasn't greatly bothered me to post, it doesn't affect my car in anyway, as when it work again it tuns like clock work. So if anyone's got any ideas, (to save fiddling for ages) would be helpful =]

If it was me I'd ignore it - you don't actually need it, just listen to the engine. Believe it or not some of us are old enough to have learnt to drive in cars that didn't even have a rev counter - took me ages to learn to ignore the 'confusing 2nd speedo', why do they make such an unimportant dial so big.

When you constantly hit the red line, that "unimportant dial" becomes somewhat useful.
Though don't get me wrong, driving without looking at rev's should be common practice.

I'm aware I don't really need it and I agree you don't need to look at it, but when you're used to seeing it flickering around out the corner of your eye, you notice when it stops.
And as its already there, I'd rather have it working than sat there pointlessly not working =/ so unless you can get a dash without a rev counter on.. still looking for an answer if anyone has one..?
(Checked the wires and whatsits already and all are fine.. so still stumped)

does the whole cluster work from one fuse?? Just a thought! and don't worry jayde, glad im not alone on this one! it bugs me to see it just sat there...lol Joni

Just an update on this situation, Mostly now the Rev needle treats 0rpm as the new idle speed...lol and the needle moves up when i rev but when i release the gas it drops down to idle at 0rpm!! Now and again it will function as normal but very rare! Anybody any ideas?? Joni

Exactly the same has happened to me this week so i would be interested in a solution.
What makes the rev counter move / work anyway?

You can try this - worked for me.
Take the binicle (sp) off from over the dash cluster.
Carefully remove the plastic cover from the cluster.
Gentle pull the needle off of the rev counter.
Using the tube that come with the can over the spindle spray a drop of WD40. This takes some practise not to hose the car down so try it before hand until you can get the just a drop to come out.
Replace the needle and gently move it up and max and back down to 0 a couple of times.
Start the car and check the needle is sitting where it normally idles, if not, reposition it.
Rev the car to ensure it's still working OK.
Put the plastic on the cluster and binicle back on.
I had a similar problem with the speedo and resolved it the same way.

my rev counter went on mine and apperntly it a sighn to show your altonator is on it way out the garage told me and it went a week after my revcounter went nice bill i got from them for a new altonator and a new speedo
