This may be a common fault in Peugeot 206, and I saw it many times with some cars here around.

1 week ago while driving, the temp gauge jumped suddenly to red and the stop light was flashing, I was in a traffic, I got scared as I thought it was really overheating, so I stopped the car at the nearest place and opened the bonnet, the surprise was that no actual overheating with the car, it is again the false alarm!! which I experienced it many times with my car before.

The problem returned back 3 days ago, and continued, every few seconds the temp gauge will jump to red and back again to 70, then jump and back, jump and back like crazy, any car in the world can't be overheated and back again to normal temp in less than 2 or 1 second!, this is crazy!, I suspected the temp gauge it self but there is a very very strange thing happening also that when the temp gauge reach the red the fan will kick to high speed and when back again to 70-80degree the fan kick off, this is continue to happened like if there is a devil in the fan!, fan kick on and off every few seconds!!! while the temp guage raise to red and back again with the fan!!!!......car is playing up with me, I'm so upset :((

Please any body know what may be going on?

^ This. Had the same thing on my mine and changing the temperature sensor sorted it. Make sure to tell your garage what the problem is though, took mine in and described the symptoms and they checked the fan then told me to just ignore it!! Ended up taking it to pug who did it very quickly.

I think I found the fault!. I tested the sensor my self today and found it fine, but noticed when shaking the wires the fan will cut off and back on with the jerking action, it seems a shortcut in the connector and the wires.

I called my electric man and he will bring me a new connector with two wires today to replace my exist one.

Thank you all for the replays.

I got the problem sorted completely with replacing the terminal connector and the 2 wires, not by replacing the temp sensor, the temp sensor was fine.

If it happen only with the AC on, please try check the Freon level.

Come again.....? Is that just the Air Con gas as I had it regassed at quickfit but they said it hadn't worked and that the compressor needed looking at as it click on and off at will.

Had the same problem on my old 1.4 Quicksilver. As said before, it was the temperature sensor at fault.
