Good morning !

My temp gauge gets up to 90 sits there for a minute or 2 then goes to the notch between 90 and the red . It sits at this point for less than a minute the steadily drops to under 90 . And this happens over and over when im driving (urban&motorway) and also when sat idling . Is this normal for a 1999 gti ?

Cheers

It shouldn't be doing it while driving as the flow of coolant is much fast then when at stand still which is why it gets warm and causes the fan to kick in.

The water temp should stay at the notch just after 70 and only raise if standing still. This is what I've found with all my 206s. But when it does get warm it gets to the notch after 90, fans kick in and then it drops back to 90. But the minute I set off again the temp drops back down to the notch just before the 90 i.e. what time sits at usually during driving.

cheap fix first, change the thermostat.
This 206 IS going on a trackday despite it's every effort to stay at home in the garage!
